"Fulfilling Gods Will as a Single Christian"

“The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD.” ~ Proverbs 16:1

Father in Jesus Name I pray for the Holy Spirit to reveal to me what You desire of me from this message. Lord, let my life please You in every way and aspect. Lord, show me the ways it doesn’t and make them pleasurable to You by faith and prayer. Amen.

When a person is submitted and surrendered to God He begins to give them desires, godly desires.  The Bible calls them the “desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4) However, it is important to know that the prerequisites to fulfilling Gods plan is being “surrendered” or yielding to Gods Word and His ways.  Whenever we do that we open the door for God to work in our heart and give us our hearts desires, which ultimately are His.  Sometimes God will simply put an impulse in our heart and we go to do it and realize “hey, this is Gods will for my life.” God can give us dreams and visions as well, but God often works in very natural ways but with supernatural outcomes.

The desires of our heart when they are from the LORD will end up being things that can be traced back into the Word of God.  They are godly desires.  Those desires motivate us to be more like Christ and if we have a desire that makes us less like Christ that’s the proof that it’s not from God. Many single Christians desire a mate, but their desire is so strong that it is an idol, something they want more than God.  James 4:2 talks about asking God things from God through prayer but it always said that we should check our motives.  If it is designed to give ourselves pleasure it’s not of Him. God isn’t against pleasure, but He is against everything that makes Him less pleasurable to us.  If you have a desire to be married, terrific, but if you think that will bring you pleasure and ultimate fulfillment that is a false concept, an idol, something God doesn’t want you to have.

It’s interesting in Philippians 2:13 it says “For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.” (NLT) So this is God working in us giving us the desires and energy to do His will and to fulfill His will.  Many want marriage, but few want to build a relationship based on godly standards, sexual integrity and purity and based on selfless and godly love.  In short, they want what pleases them, they want an idol and from there they have failed relationship after failed relationship.  It almost seems impossible these days to find someone who doesn’t want to have sex outside of marriage.  Although it’s not the will of God that we do that according to 1 Thessalonians 4:3 it is interesting that finding such a person is out of reach from human standpoints.  The only way you can find that is through God and I believe He allowed that to take place in order to make us pray for that and cause us to wait and let God work in us to where we want sexual purity in our lives.

It’s no secret women want to have sex outside of marriage just as much as men and anything less than debating that is foolish.  The Bible says in Proverbs 31:29-30 “Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.” So it’s easy to see here God isn’t saying “look at them and see how they are physically, do they please you?” No, God is saying “are they like Jesus, are they godly, do they love the things of the LORD?”  Also God talks about men in order to help women and promises to them that it is indeed hard to find a faithful man, someone who loves God.  The Word of God says in Proverbs 20:6 “a faithful man who can find?”  Again, God placed them out of reach so when you find one (without them being an idol) you’ll know it came through His grace, love, mercy and prayer.

So when God does give us impulses it’s important to take note of them, are they of God?  Do they make us want to serve and know Him or are they fleshly and carnal only seeking to give ourselves pleasure and temporary satisfaction.  If they are that, they are not from God and don’t pursue those things or you’ll end up in Satan’s snares. Satan’s traps are everywhere and for single Christians they are lurking in shadows, walking in Churches, living next to them and even sitting right next to them reading this. If you are with the wrong person the same impulse that God gives to do godly things will be the same impulse that says “this isn’t My will for you.”  Be aware and be wise!

Father in Jesus Name I come to You and I ask You to give me discernment on what godly impulses are. Lord, I pray for the Holy Spirit to take away the strong urges that can be godly desires, but have become idols in my life. Lord, help me to be more like You and help me to walk in integrity and character that represents Christ and reflects Christ in Jesus Name. Amen.
